The fewer visible profiles a design uses, the more work moves into glass, supports and logistics. For oversized panes, weight, deflection, crane access and installation sequence must be known before ordering.

PRINCIPLE
Glass size is not only a manufacturing limit.
Even when a float line can supply a jumbo sheet, it may still need heat treatment, lamination, IGU assembly, transport, unloading, lifting and installation within acceptable deformation limits. We verify the complete chain rather than one catalogue dimension.

WHAT WE CHECK
Specification starts with the problem.
With large-format glazing, geometry and logistics cannot be separated. A pane must not only be engineered and manufactured; it has to be transported, lifted and installed without overloading the frame.
Calculate weight before hardware selection
Weight affects rollers, carriages, setting blocks, structural support, suction equipment and crane selection. For moving sashes it is a primary system limit.
Verify the processing chain
A float-glass sheet limit does not guarantee the same limit after coating, heat treatment, lamination or IGU assembly.
Treat logistics as part of design
Approach geometry, crane radius, rack storage, glass delivery direction and a safe installation zone need to be planned.
Support stiffness and deflection
Heavy units need a predictable structural base. Floor deflection, unstable packing or level errors are especially critical for low thresholds and minimal sliders.
PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
A quick glass-weight check
Glass density is about 2,500 kg/m³. One square metre therefore weighs roughly 2.5 kg per millimetre of thickness. A 3 × 3 m panel with two 8 mm glass plies contains about 360 kg of glass before spacers and other IGU components are counted.
