HOW AN IGU WORKS

An IGU is not simply several panes. It is a sealed construction in which each layer addresses heat, sun, safety, acoustics or mechanical stability.

HOW AN IGU WORKS

LOGIC

How we read the task.

01

Outer pane

Takes wind and solar load and may require heat treatment or solar-control coating.

02

Cavities

Width, gas and spacer affect Ug and edge-zone temperature.

03

Middle pane

Separates cavities in a triple IGU and may require heat treatment in large formats.

04

Inner pane

Low-E coating, lamination or an acoustic build-up follows the room requirements.

FAQ

Short answers.

Is triple glazing always warmer?

Not automatically. Coatings, cavity width, gas, spacer and real dimensions matter, while added thickness increases mass.

Why use argon?

It reduces heat transfer within a sealed cavity compared with ordinary air.

Why is the glass edge colder?

The spacer creates an edge zone with different conductivity. A warm-edge spacer reduces that effect.
