TECHNICAL DETAIL / BIFORIUM

FACADE TO WALL

The edge of a curtain wall is not simply a sealant joint between aluminium and wall. Fixing, structural movement, thermal continuity and water management all meet here.

DETAIL LOGIC

What should be resolved before installation.

We pay particular attention where curtain wall meets render, ventilated facade, roof or plinth.

CHECKPOINTS

We review the junction as a system.

01

Mullion fixing

Perimeter mullions and anchors need to work within the permitted movement of system and structure.

02

Movement allowance

Thermal and building movements should not be rigidly locked by finishes.

03

Thermal continuity

Wall insulation is brought to the facade frame without leaving an exposed cold zone.

04

Airtightness and water

Internal airtightness and external water management are treated as separate functions.
